Helping Shape The Next Generation Of Ski Racers And
Their Communities
Our Purpose
The Bob Gilmour Ski Foundation (BGSF) promotes and supports the participation, development and advancement of Canadian amateur athletes in alpine skiing.
BGSF's activities are intended to reduce financial and other barriers that may prevent Canadian athletes, particularly youth and developing athletes, from participating in alpine skiing, developing their skills and progressing through appropriate levels of amateur athletic competition.
BGSF will develop and support programs involving:
youth participation;
athlete development;
competition;
coach development; and
advanced athlete development.
BGSF may also establish designated or restricted funds to support these activities.
The Foundation may operate independently or work with recognized ski clubs, coaches, schools, sport organizations, community organizations, corporations, foundations, governments and other appropriate organizations.
The National Scope
BGSF intends to develop its activities on a Canada-wide basis.
The Foundation's national activities may include working with:
Canadian alpine ski clubs;
provincial and territorial ski organizations;
national ski organizations;
recognized coaches;
athlete-development ski programs;
schools and educational institutions involved in skiing;
community organizations involved in skiing;
corporations and other sports foundations;
other organizations involved in Canadian amateur alpine skiing.
BGSF will progressively develop a national network through which eligible amateur athletes and athlete-development initiatives may be identified and supported.
Big ideas, real impact.
BGSF exists to remove financial barriers, uses partnerships and fundraising to create opportunities, and delivers programs that develop Canadian youth, athletes and coaches while supporting their progression in alpine skiing.
-
Why BGSF exists
To remove financial and other barriers that prevent Canadian youth and amateur alpine athletes from participating, developing and progressing in the sport of alpine skiing.
BGSF seeks to create opportunities so that an athlete's financial circumstances do not determine how far they can go in the sport od alpine ski racing.
-
How BGSF will achieve this
BGSF will:
Build partnerships with ski clubs, ski coaches, ski organizations, schools, corporations and community organizations that support ski racing.
Raise funds through donors, corporations, grants, sponsorships and dedicated funds.
Provide financial and other appropriate assistance for amatuer ski athlete development, training, equipment and competition.
Support youth participation and coach development.
Develop a national network and pathway for Canadian alpine athletes.
Measure and report on the impact of its programs.
-
What BGSF will actually do
BGSF will deliver five core areas of activity:
Youth Development — introduce and retain young people in alpine skiing.
Athlete Development — support training, coaching, equipment and athlete progression.
Competition Support — help athletes participate in appropriate competitive opportunities.
Coach Development — develop the coaches who develop the athletes.
